Disney Cruise Line Halloween on the High Seas Cruises 2025: Dates, Activities, Tips & Full Guide

What Is “Halloween on the High Seas”

“Halloween on the High Seas” (HOTHS) is Disney Cruise Line’s seasonal themed sailing in September & October where many of the usual Disney magic elements get a spooky, fun, autumn twist. Ships are decked out in Halloween decor, characters dress up, families get to enjoy Halloween-style entertainment, food, parties, crafts, and more—all designed to delight both kids and adults.

Special Features & Offerings

Here are the signature experiences and offerings you can expect aboard HOTHS sailings:

Pumpkin Tree & Atrium Decoration: When you board, the ship’s atrium has a “Pumpkin Tree” centerpiece—an enchanted tree that grows Jack-o-lanterns, often with bark, lights, and a spooky/fairytale story behind it. Ships are also heavily decorated: pumpkins, autumn leaves, themed lighting, and more.

Mickey’s Mouse-querade Party: A big costume party featuring Disney characters in Halloween costumes, music, dancing, and lots of fun. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes, too.

Character Meet & Greets: Characters appear in special Halloween outfits. A highlight is the “Sanderson Sisters” meet & greet (Minnie, Daisy, Clarabelle dressed as the witches from Hocus Pocus) in many sailings. Other costumes include bats, spiders, skeletons, etc.

Trick-or-Treating: Kids can go trick-or-treating throughout the ship, often in the evening, with stations handing out candy. There are also setup stations where bags or candy are available.

Themed Eats & Treats: Special Halloween-inspired desserts, novelty treats, themed beverages, sweets in the buffets, and dining areas. Items like themed cakes, cookies, milkshakes, and exclusive seasonal sippers or popcorn buckets show up.

Arts, Crafts & Activities: Pumpkin carving/painting, Halloween crafts for kids, themed trivia, possibly mask-making, ghost stories, and interactive workshops.

Movies & Storytelling: Screening of Disney-friendly Halloween movies on Funnel Vision (pool deck) and in theaters, plus storytelling events—ghost stories or Halloween tales, sometimes under starlight.

Adults-Only & Villainous Events: For grownups: costume contests, themed dance parties (Villainous Takeovers), adult-exclusive lounges hosting special Halloween-themed offerings, often in the evenings.

Halloween Merchandise & Room Decor: Exclusive Halloween merch (apparel, mugs, sippers, pins, spirit jerseys, popcorn buckets), and optional room decor packages (pillows, throws, spooky decorations) are available for pre-purchase on the DCL website.

When & Where

  • These sailings take place in September and October each year.
  • Ships across the fleet participate (Magic, Dream, Wish, Treasure etc.) on select dates.

Spooktacular Tips for Making the Most of Your Halloween on the High Seas Cruise

Want to get the most magic out of your Halloween sailing? Here are some tried-and-true tips from past cruisers:

  • Pack those costumes! Dressing up makes Mickey’s Mouse-querade and other Halloween events extra special for both kids and adults.
  • Use the Navigator App daily to stay on top of event times like parties, Pumpkin Tree ceremonies, stories, and meet-and-greets.
  • Be in the Atrium or Grand Hall early on night one so you don’t miss the Pumpkin Tree’s enchanting lighting and story—it’s the perfect way to kick off your cruise.
  • Snag Halloween merchandise early, as popular themed items tend to sell out quickly.
  • Deck out your stateroom. Pre-order a Halloween décor package or bring your own touches to add a festive vibe from the start.
  • Plan ahead for evenings. With both family-friendly and adults-only events, it helps to choose your must-dos—like costume contests or dance parties—so you won’t miss a thing.
  • Join in the spirit. From costumes to door decorations, the more guests participate, the more magical and immersive the atmosphere becomes.
